Terms of use and sale

Last updated November 3, 2026

These terms apply when you use soferbooks.com, run by Sofer Books LLC, a New York company (“Sofer”, “we”), to design a book, order printed copies, download a PDF or upload a Sefer. By using the site, and by paying for an order, you agree to them. Please read them, together with our privacy policy and the questions and answers.

Books made to order

Every book is made for you, from the texts, layout and cover you choose, and printed only after you order it. The preview shows you how your book will look; please check it, and the details in your cart (size, binding, paper, number of copies, shipping address), before you pay. Printed copies may vary slightly from the screen and from one another in colour, trimming and position, as is normal in printing.

The texts

The texts come from free digital editions of Sefarim, each printed under its own licence, which the book’s sources page names. Not everything in the library has been checked by a person, and Nikud added by computer is not checked word by word, so there will be mistakes. We print each text as its edition has it, and we do not promise that any text is free of errors. A mistake in a text is not a defect in the book, but please tell us about it, so it can be fixed.

We may add, change or remove texts in the library at any time.

What you add

You are responsible for what you add to a book - its name, a dedication, words and pictures on the cover, or a cover you upload - and you promise that you have the right to use it. We may refuse to print anything that is unlawful, infringes someone else’s rights, or is not suitable for Sofer.

Prices and payment

The price of each book, the shipping and, where it is known, the sales tax are shown in the cart before you pay. Prices are in US dollars. You pay by card on Stripe’s secure payment page; an order is placed when the payment is accepted. Sales tax is added where the law requires it. If a price was shown in error, we will tell you, and you may cancel the order for a full refund.

Shipping

For now we ship to the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Israel (orders with up to $75 of books). The cart shows when your books are expected to be printed and sent, and how long each shipping choice takes; these are estimates, not promises. Your order’s page shows its tracking once it is sent. The risk of loss passes to you when the books are delivered to the address you gave; please make sure it is correct.

Cancelling and changing orders

Once you pay, your order goes straight to the printer, and it cannot be cancelled or changed. Because every book is made to order, we do not accept returns or give refunds for a change of mind.

Damaged or misprinted books

If a book arrives damaged, with a printing defect, or not as ordered, or does not arrive, use “Report a problem” on your order’s page within 7 days of receiving it (or, if it never arrives, within 30 days of when it was sent), with photos of the problem, and of the box if it was damaged on the way. Once the printer has confirmed it, we will have the book printed again and sent to you at no cost, or, if it cannot be reprinted, refund it. You do not need to send the book back unless we ask for it.

PDFs and credits

You may download your book as a PDF to print at home for your own use. Each account gets one free PDF a day; after that each PDF takes a credit. You receive 100 credits with every order you pay for, and you can buy 250 credits for $5 (sales tax included where it applies). Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred, and are not refundable once bought, except where the law requires it. A PDF that fails to be made returns its credit.

A PDF of your book is for you; the texts in it are under the licences named on its sources page, and the fonts are licensed for printing your book.

Uploading Sefarim

When you upload a Sefer, you promise that it is your own work or free of copyright, and that you may share it. You choose how others may use it: CC BY-SA 4.0 or CC BY-NC 4.0. Whichever you choose, you also allow Sofer to print it, sell printed copies of it, and print it in books with other Sefarim, without payment to you. Every upload is checked before it is available, and we may decline an upload or remove it from the library at any time. You can download your own Sefer as a PDF, free (up to 5 a day), and upload new versions.

Your account and the site

Keep your sign-in safe; you are responsible for what is done with your account. Do not misuse the site: do not try to break or overload it, copy the library in bulk, or use it for anything unlawful. We may suspend an account that does. The site, its software, its design and its fonts belong to Sofer or to their owners.

Our responsibility

We will do our best to make and send your books well. We are not responsible for delays caused by printers, carriers, or events outside our control. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its rules on conflicts of law. Nothing in this section takes away protections you have under the laws of the place you live.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms; the new version will be posted here with its date. An order is governed by the terms posted when it was paid for.
